When Women Lead- My Truths
Thoughts and reflections from Outdoor Retailer January 2018.
Speak Your Truth| As I shared at She Ventures Denver Thursday, in 2007 I came to some realizations that would change the direction my life would take the next decade. 1) Women are the largest untapped resource in the world. 2) Violence against women needs to end and not be tolerated (1/3 women will experience violence in their lifetime globally-stats haven't improved in 10 years). 3) Adventure changes lives. I know this because it changed mine. It was really an honor to be able to speak and share my truths at @outdoorretailer and share the stage with some incredible women leaders all working to pave the way to a more equal/level playing field both in the boardroom and on the trails within their organizations. There's been so many times in my life and work where I've felt invisible, like my voice was silenced, or when my truths went ignored. Yet, I've never stopped persisting. I've invited myself to many "tables" without an invitation, and carved space to add value and help elevate not only my voice but that of other women. OR was special this year, in bringing together hundreds for @she.ventures.co to celebrate women who choose adventure as a way of life, to cohosting our When Women Lead panel with @camberoutdoors , to being a mentor for a second year for the Future Leader Academy for the @outdoorindustry, to having our film, Cumbre, premier highlighting our women's Orizaba Climb and the wonderful work of @big_city_mountaineers ...it's an honor to be driving meaningful conversations to bring change. It takes a village, but power and change comes with kindness, collaboration, openness, willingness, and a recognition we can't do it all alone and we need to bring and uplift others to help us keep doing good work. I want to keep being a bridge, speaking my truth, and encouraging other women to speak theirs. Our voices matter, our work matters, and we drive change together. #sheventures #girlboss @kathmandugear
