Solo Climbing Across the Dolomites and Slovenian Mountain trail

Dolomites + Slovenia//July-August 2019

This project was in collaboration with Kathmandu to encourage women's empowerment via solo adventure and travel while showcasing some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.

The adventures consist of heading to the Dolomites in Italy in July (hiking, climbing, trail running) and then Slovenia in August (600km hiking and climbing) to document and encourage women to take on solo adventures. The media continues to promote controversial articles such as the NY Times piece on how solo adventure travel for women is too dangerous. This type of media disempowers women, instills fear, and continues to share the narrative that adventure and solo travel is for men and too risky for women.

Georgina was recently interviewed for Vox, to share her views and her approach to solo travel. “If I waited to have a travel buddy, partner, spouse, boyfriend, whatever, to go do all the things I wanted to do, I would never do them. ... Life is short. I don’t want to sit at home waiting.”

These projects are an opportunity to promote women's empowerment, freedom, the gift of adventure, and showcase not only the beauty of pristine and remote nature, but also how good experiences like these are for our wellbeing and spirit. They are meant to spark a fire or inspiration for women to take a leap and venture out whether they have someone to go with or not. There is a big beautiful world out there to explore! The two locations while wild and remote are extremely safe. This again helps educate women that there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy an adventurous lifestyle without fear of being attacked or otherwise as shared in the controversial NY times article.

Georgina produced a blog post, images, and videos of her 2 month journey.
